Web Office

Intalio|Web Office lets users create rich documents, presentations, and spreadsheets using any Web browser, while preserving full compatibility with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Documents can also embed live data served by other Intalio applications or any Web services.

Powered by OpenOffice

Intalio|Web Office—much like Google Docs—is powered by OpenOffice.org (Learn More). The Java-based OpenOffice.org productivity suite is deployed in a headless mode on the server-side, while a Web server provides an AJAX user interface that can be used from any Web browser. On the back-end, documents, presentations, and spreadsheets are stored into Intalio|DMS, or any other Document Management System such as Microsoft SharePoint.

Built To Scale

Office productivity suites require significant amounts of CPU and memory in order to run efficiently. Web-based solution remove the need for such resources on the client side, but increase it on the server side. For this reason, Intalio|Web Office leverages a scalable clustering architecture based on pools of Web servers and OpenOffice instances that can be used in parallel by large groups of users, without creating any noticeable latency when processing user actions.

Designed for Collaboration

One of the main benefits of cloud-based office productivity suites is the ability to easily share documents with users online. Intalio|Web Office supports such a feature, but goes a step beyond by allowing multiple users to work on the same document at the same time. This is made possible by leveraging a scalable messaging infrastructure, and properly decoupling presentation (handled by the Web browser and Web server), processing (handled by OpenOffice), and storage (handled by the DMS).
